Potential analysis: measuring decisive factors for team success

Potenzialanalysen

Team development is not a one-day workshop, but an ongoing process. In order not to leave development to chance, but to be able to concretely track how effectively a team is working and where problems lie in the cooperation, it is important to collect measurable key figures. A subsequent review can show how the team has developed over time and what unused potential is in the team. This is what we call potential analysis.

The data-based analysis of team potential reveals exactly where to start for customized optimization. It is often possible to uncover potential that would otherwise never have emerged. If the performance of a team is evaluated solely on the basis of work results, unused potential will not become visible. To identify them, critical factors must be measured and taken into account in the evaluation. Measuring these factors allows performance inhibitors to become visible and makes it possible to optimize the management of the team. Regularity is key, because the effects of individual measures quickly evaporate. Long-term support and regular monitoring are necessary for the sustainable development of potential.

“What does my team need?”

By analyzing the potential regularly, the personnel development budget can be used more effectively, as the team’s weak points are precisely identified. This allows targeted development measures to be taken that are beneficial for the company. On the other hand, if you don’t know which development measure is appropriate, you end up spending a lot of money for less improvement. On a different note, team success can be measured to understand what can be maintained.

The potential analysis enables optimized management

It is not only the teams that benefit from potential analyses but also the Managers. Data-based analyses make it easier to plan workflows – a glance at the application quickly reveals which tasks have already been completed and where there is room for improvement. So if you don’t have the opportunity to contact the team directly, for example due to physical separation or lack of time, you can still see where the team stands. This means a great relief for the managers and more time for strategic activities. Continuous monitoring of team development allows problems to be identified at an early stage, enabling rapid intervention. People are quickly led by emotions. Managers are not protected from this either. The team instrument helps to supplement the subjective assessment with objective measurement points.

Corporate management is often the furthest away from the team action. Therefore, it is often challenging to identify potentials and problems in teams at an early stage. Dysfunctional teams are a major cost factor that must be avoided. To do so, however, it is necessary to identify which problems have led to this dysfunctionality. The potential analysis offers great assistance in this regard by quickly and clearly showing where weaknesses lie. Even with agile and physically separated teams, management is thus closer to the action and can intervene more quickly in the event of problems.

Different types of teams and their specifics

Different types of teams often have different potentials. An ‘innovation team’, for example, often has high levels of creativity, openness and agility. A weak point, on the other hand, can be the transfer of action. Many ideas are generated, but few are put into practice. There may also be untapped potential in the area of focus and the effective use of interfaces. Data-based solutions make it possible to access a large knowledge base from thousands of data records of previous projects for different types of teams and can thus quickly assess which potentials still need to be worked on in the team in order to reach a new level of performance.

Potential analysis at company level

We have made it our business to secure the full potential at company level. In doing so, our digital team tool decodes the development progress of your teams and makes strengths of cooperation analytically visible and usable. The potentials are measured in 16 development modules. Regular queries enable ongoing tracking and progress monitoring. The progress of the teams becomes visible on the company dashboard, which presents all findings. It also offers new opportunities to keep an eye on team potential in order to provide tailored offers for teams.
